Water rates raised, salaries increased
Steelville has a 2015 Fiscal Year Budget approved, although one alderman voted against it, and another only voted for it because he felt the mayor would break the tie in favor of the proposal. The major contention came from the fact that the document included projected revenue from a rate increase for water and sewer along with a wage increase for all city employees.

City projects increase engineering fees
Engineering expenses for the city of Steelville are currently at $58,491 for the calendar year, an amount that is nearly $40,000 more than last year’s total annual cost of $19,258. Aldermen approved over $11,000 in bills at the last city council meeting held on June 2, bringing the total since January to nearly $60,000.

Dozens gathered for the Second Annual Plein Air Gala and Auction last Thursday evening at the Meramec Adventure Learning Ranch with high hopes of selling their paintings to the highest bidder, or bringing home a masterpiece of their own. According to Jack Bowles, this year’s event was the best yet.
Sweet new business opens in Steelville
Steelville has a new store open for business, and it’s filled with all of the sweetest treats you’ve loved since you were a kid. Brandon and Ashley Thomlinson have opened The Sweet Tooth Shop, located at 106 South First Street in the building formerly known as Helen’s Beauty Shop.
