Harvest Festival activities continue through Sunday

    Harvest Festival is under way! Tuesday kicked off the events for the week of fun to be had at Steelville’s 50th Annual Harvest Festival, sponsored by the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce. Activities for all ages will continue through Sunday, so plan now to come out and enjoy all our community has to offer in this celebration, whose theme is “50 Magical Years” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the event.

School gets lower grade, still ranks high

    Steelville Schools has received its annual grade card from the state of Missouri—and has ended up with a solid B+ for the last school year. The district received an 87.5 percent average for the areas reviewed by the state, down from the 2013 score of 94.3 percent.

    The Steelville School Board met on Thursday, August 21, and conducted business as follows:
Principal Reports
    SES Principal Lynne Reed reported “one of the smoothest back-to-school transitions to date,” preceded by a great turnout at Meet Your Teacher Night, with 92 percent of students attending with one or more parents or family members.

Parade entry forms still available

    The 50th Annual Harvest Festival Parade in Steelville is Saturday, September 6, at 1:30 p.m. The parade theme this year is “50 Magical Years” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Harvest Festival. The parade is sponsored by the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce and floats for organizations, businesses and community groups are encouraged. 


SFPD offers summer safety tips

    The SFPD would like to remind everyone that, as the end of summer is here, it’s still important to remember to be careful of the heat. Watch out for people, especially the elderly, who are outside for an extended amount of time, and encourage them to stay hydrated, and take breaks in the shade.
