CHS crowns new royal couple at homecoming - PHOTO GALLERY

Gabrielle Smith and Kenny Highley were crowned Cuba High School’s Homecoming 2014 queen and king during a coronation ceremony at the football field on Friday night. Although it was a cool evening showing first signs of fall, the ceremony managed to go off without any wet weather, as the mist and sprinkles of rain did not begin to fall until after the football game started.

City looking to consolidate communications providers to save cash

Doug Nelson, an account executive with Charter Communications, discussed internet and telephone options at city buildings and their costs for installation at a recent city council meeting. The city is considering making changes to its providers to consolidate both the number of carriers it uses and the price for services.

Fundraiser at Belmont Winery will support animal shelter

They’re letting the dogs out at Belmont Winery this Friday for a fundraiser to help support the Cuba animal shelter. It is also a one-year anniversary celebration for the establishment of the Partners for the Cuba Pound nonprofit group.


Problem at substation caused blackout

Things went dark all across Cuba last Thursday when a power outage at the Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative caused a temporary, daytime electrical failure that blacked out the entire town for approximately 90 minutes. After some emergency repairs were made, the power was restored without further complications or interruptions—but not before lunchtime business ground to a halt and schools were forced to close early.
