Of the 30,000 species of bees that exist worldwide, 400 of them can be found in Missouri. Bees contribute $14 billion to the value of U.S. crop production. Three quarters of all flowering plants require pollinators, such as bees, to reproduce. In their six week lifespan, one bee produces just 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey. It takes 60,000 bees to produce one pound of honey. And bees have been experiencing a mysterious rash of disappearances over the last decade.
Scouts win Trash Bash

Even though rainy weather threatened to put a damper on the 2013 Trash Bash for Cash, the event went on as scheduled. Over 50 bags of trash were collected Saturday morning. First place went to Boy Scout Troop #429 (shown here) and second place went to Calvary Baptist Church.
Alarm sounds at Leasburg town hall

Police responded to a silent alarm early on the morning of Friday, April 24 in Leasburg. At approximately 1:30 a.m., the city hall's alarm system was triggered. Crawford County deputies were occupied with other calls, so Bourbon police responded to the call and secured the building.
BHS FFA honors Bunch during its annual banquet

The Bourbon chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) held its annual banquet the evening of Friday, May 3 in the Bourbon Community Center. An estimated 220 people attended the banquet and ceremony. Flowers from the FFA greenhouse were available for sale.
