Leathers gives presentation on retail development strategies

    Local government leaders representing the communities within Crawford County gathered Monday to hear a presentation on retail development strategies offered by Mardy Leathers, president of Cuba Development Group (CDG) and Crawford County clerk. Representatives from the cities of Steelville and Cuba, Crawford County, and other local organizations came together to discuss possibilities for the region.

Extension holds annual banquet

The Crawford County Extension Council held their annual recognition banquet in Cuba on March 25, 2014. Two Century Farms—the Halbert Farm of Cherryville and Summers Farm of Steelville—received certificates and farm signs in honor of their 100-year farm at the banquet. Becky Simpson, Chair of the Extension Council, presided over the event.

Man held after brutal assault

    A Steelville man is in jail after allegedly attacking another man with a tire iron and beating him severely on Sunday. Brock Edward Woodfin, age 45, stands charged with class A felony assault in the first degree and unclassified felony armed criminal action. He is currently being held on $247,000 cash only bond.

Five arrested following meth lab raid

    Five people were arrested and charged with drug felonies after police allgedly discovered a meth lab at a home on Thurman Lake Road near Steelville on April 4. The lab was found in a derelict residence located on the property of Kathie M. Hoss, 55, one of those charged as a result of the investigation.

County working on bridge project with Forest Service

    Crawford County Road District #1 has three projects currently in the works to improve bridges and roads in the southern portion of the county. Two of the three projects involve collaboration with larger entities within the state, while the third will be completed by county crews.
