Workers begin to raze building

    Maggi Construction has begun demolition of a condemned building on West Washington Street. Work began over a week ago with workers cleaning up asbestos and now the building is being torn down. Despite a small delay because of the weather, demolition started this week and could be completed by April.

Trivia Night will allow Kiwanis to fund local programs

    A St. James Kiwanis Club trivia night was held on February 15, resulting in the Nelson Hart Community Hall being filled with teams vying for the trivia title. The annual fundraiser brought in a net of  $2,288, with another $975 from a silent auction, which will be put back into the community with programs conducted by the Kiwanis Club.

Ambulance district raises $6,000 at fun run

    The St. James Ambulance District held its second annual 5k walk/run to raise money for the Emergency Service Workers Relief Fund. On Saturday, February 22, participants began the race at the Nelson Hart Park to raise money in honor of firefighter Steve Huffman, who was killed last year in an car wreck.

School work progressing nicely

    Construction at St. James schools continues to gain traction. Warmer weather has led to significant improvements, including walls being built at the new entrance at the high school and additional classrooms at the middle school. Lloyd Pooker, of Creative Construction Solutions, presented the board of education with the first change order and gave an update on the project last week.

Vigil planned to remember young murder victim

    A candlelight vigil is schedule for Friday, February 28 for Hailey Owens.
    From 6 to 7 p.m., the vigil will be a chance for citizens of St. James to support the family of the young girl from Springfield, Mo., who was recently kidnapped and murdered.
