Smith delivers new books from Congress

    On Friday, June 27, Congressman Jason Smith personally delivered five full boxes of books donated from the Surplus Books Program to the James Memorial Public Library. The books were duplicates from the Library of Congress and will be used for different purposes at the facility.

Local rider headed to rodeo finals

    Kayla Copenhaver, of St. James, recently qualified for 66th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR). She will be traveling with fellow teammates to Rock Springs, Wyoming for the finals from July 13-19.

Volunteers needed at Caring Center

    Volunteers are being sought at the St. James Caring Center during the summer months. Help is needed sorting items and working the facility’s Thrift Store and helping out is a great way for young adults and retired volunteers to give back to the community. There is no set schedule, which means volunteers can work anytime they have available.

Asphalt work will compliment improvements

    During their monthly meeting last week, the St. James Board of Education accepted bids for an asphalt project that will repair areas around the high and elementary schools. West Construction was awarded the winning bid at approximately $100,000 and will lay asphalt at the new entryway at the high school, on the bus lot at the elementary school, and leading into the football field.

School board approves 2014-15 budget

    The St. James Board of Education finalized the budget for the fiscal 2014-15 school year and accepted the proposed budget for the upcoming school year during their regular meeting on June 26. Over the course of last year, the district spent some balances down due to the purchase of laptops for the high school, the purchase of a new maintenance vehicle, and some minor budget changes.
