Schools collecting canned goods

    St. James schools are once again participating in canned food drives this year. Elementary and middle school students are bringing in canned food to be donated to the St. James Caring Center for its holiday food distribution. Each building has a goal and hopes to improve on last year’s successful drive.

Center seeking holiday help

    The St. James Caring Center is once again participating in its Adopt-a-Senior and Adopt-a-Teen programs designed to help community members during the holidays. Each year, the Caring Center offers stockings that are up for adoption by local individuals and businesses. These are then distributed to residents to provide for holiday needs.

Veterans welcome at JFH assembly

    John F. Hodge High School will hold a Veterans Day Assembly on November 7 to honor local veterans. Students will honor the 61st Anniversary of the Veterans Day celebration with music, poetry and a salute to veterans.

BBQ event coming back to MVH Friday-Sunday

    The Second Annual Missouri Veterans Home BBQ Bivouac will be held this weekend at the St. James Veterans Home. Last year was a great first year of competition and the Veterans Home is looking to make year two even bigger. Sponsored by the MVH-Assistance League, the KC Barbeque Society sanctioned competition will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the 30 registered competitors.

Conservation class clearning glade area in local park

    Through the Missouri Department of Conservation and the University of Missouri Extension, a Master Naturalists class is offered every 18 months to certify volunteer citizens in the knowledge of local conservation. Master Naturalists are instructed in all areas of Missouri ecology, including our unique Ozark geology which houses a vast variety of plants, animals and trees.
