School leaves tax levy as is
The St. James Board of Education voted August 21 to hold the district’s tax levy at the current rate. A public hearing was held to allow for citizen input, but none was heard. Board members felt now is not the appropriate time to raise the levy, which it could do by law.
A community tailgate party and ribbon-cutting ceremony are scheduled for this Friday, August 29, to mark the official opening of the new track and football field. The St. James Tiger Football team will be hosting their first home game of the season against Houston and board of education members will serve hamburgers, hotdogs, and refreshments to the public at no charge.
Phelps County Clerk Carol Bennett want to advise registered Phelps County voters that absentee ballots for the September 30 Special Election to be held in the city of St. James are now available in the county clerk’s office.
Group celebrates 79th anniversary of Social Security at Veterans Home
Residents of the St. James Missouri Veterans Home celebrated the 79th anniversary of Social Security with members of the Missouri Alliance for Retired Americans. Volunteers from the Alliance honored the veterans with balloons and a big cake. A bingo game was also provided for entertainment during the celebration.
Golden Living Center makes donation to Golden Age Center
The Golden Living Center (GLC) on Tuesday presented the Golden Age Center (GAC) a community grant of $1,000 for operation costs. Members of the GAC board we on hand to receive the grant award, which is part of the GLC Corporation Community Grants program.
