School test scores drop some, but remain high overall
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has released report cards for Missouri’s public school districts. St. James schools remained very similar to how it has performed in recent years, but school officials are adjusting to new rating criteria and hope to improve those scores.
Huffman resigns from school board
The St. James Board of Education accepted Gary Huffman’s resignation from the board during a special session on Friday. Huffman signed a letter of resignation due to health concerns and the board will look to find a replacement until the next local election.
Nice crowd attends library forum
Library board members and city officials held a public forum Tuesday at the James Memorial Public Library to discuss the upcoming vote on a library tax. A large group of residents attended the event to get their questions answered in regards to the proposed 30-cent per $100 assessed valuation issue to be voted on September 30.
City has refinanced pool bonds
The city of St. James has completed refunding pool bonds, saving a final value of approximately $232,000 over the next 15 years. After working for more than a year to capitalize on low interest rates, city officials have completed the process, issuing $1,675,000 of bonds to refund bonds that were associated with the construction of the pool complex.
Golf tournament raises $17,000 for Veterans Home
Golfers enjoyed a beautiful day as they played in support of the St. James Missouri Veterans Home. The 14th Annual St. James Assistance League Golf Tournament was held on August 11 and 26 teams competed at the St. James Golf Course to support the veteran residents at the facility.
