Child falls into pond

The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department has announced that an incident that occurred on January 26 in which a two-year-old boy fell into a rural pond has been ruled an accident.

Route 8 bridge replacement to begin next week

Contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin the process of replacing the Route 8 bridge over Dry Fork Creek just south of St. James next week.

Extension to offer strength-training class for seniors

The University of Missouri Extension is partnering with the Greentree Christian Church in Rolla to offer Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - a strength training program to help men and women increase strength, flexibility and balance. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial for health. Building strength promotes quality of life and independence, especially for adults over 50.

    The South Central Missouri Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children honored the volunteers who serve the abused and neglected children living in foster care in the 25th Judicial Circuit.

MU Extension and USDA hosting Farm Bill meeting

The 2014 Farm Bill contains several provisions that enable farmers and landowners to make decisions regarding their involvement in federal farm programs.  Landowners will have the opportunity to reallocate base acres on individual farms as well as update yield information that is used to determine some farm program payments.
