Sheltered Workshop plans expansion

    During the week of March 13, Phelps County commissioners:
    • Heard from Larry Smith, Smith Sand & Gravel, LLC, who discussed contracting with the county to provide crushed brown rock. The commission solicited bids on this material earlier this year and no bids were received. Commissioners advised Smith that they would be interested in contracting with him for three years to purchase a minimum of 6,000 tons of the material each year. Prosecuting Attorney John Beger will draw up a contract.

Candidates have until Tuesday to file for primary

    Filing for County offices continues this week with Tuesday, March 25 being the finial day for candidates. Interested candidates have begun filing with County Clerk Carol Bennett with many offices up for election this year.

Arson suspected in rural St. James fire

    A Rolla man is facing charges as the result of an investigation into a fire on County Road 3200 earlier this month.

Pavement work rescheduled on Interstate 44 in Phelps County

Contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation will replace the pavement along the eastbound lanes of I-44 between Route 63 and Vichy Road in Rolla. The work will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22. The project was delayed by one week due to cold temperatures forecast during the nighttime hours.

Treasurer gives monthly report

    During the week of March 6, Phelps County commissioners:
    • Heard from Treasurer Carol Green, who informed the commission that CART Funds received in March were down 0.86 percent, motor vehicle sales tax funds were up 13.53 percent, and motor vehicle fees were up 28.42 percent over the same period in 2013.
