Deputy coroner rescues woman on flooded I-44

    Newly elected Crawford County Coroner Darren Dake rescued a woman from a flooding vehicle on the interstate last month as he was returning from Sullivan where he had been performing his duty as deputy coroner. The rescue took place on July 19 near the county line on Interstate 44, and Dake said he didn’t think it was a big deal.

COVID-19 cases total 77 in Crawford County

    Crawford County’s positive COVID-19 cases totaled 77 as of Monday, August 10. That is an increase of 19 cases over a week ago on August 3, when the total was 58. On Monday, July 27, Crawford County’s total was 33, showing a total increase of 44 positive cases in the last two weeks.

Randazzo won three counties, took second in another on way to circuit judge election victory

    Having good name recognition and experience is generally a winning combination for any political candidate and that certainly turned out to be the case for Mike Randazzo in last week’s Republican Primary for Division 2 judge in the 42nd Circuit. Randazzo won the three counties where is he most well-known and that was more than enough to secure a spot on the November ballot where he will be unopposed.

Primary election had 28 percent of voters at polls

    The August 4 Primary Election brought out just over 28 percent of Crawford County voters to cast their ballots. Of the registered voters in the county, just 4,612 out of 16,181 voted last Tuesday. The vast majority did so at polling locations throughout the county, with only 375 choosing to vote by absentee ballot, and just 10 by mail-in ballot.

Steelville man faces drug charges

    A Steelville man has been charged for drug possession following his arrest on a felony warrant on July 13. Nathanael Koshiway Pendleton, 36, of Steelville, stands charged with the class D felony of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) as a result of the incident.
