Douglas Maurice Whiteside

    Douglas Maurice Whiteside of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, July 28, 1937 at Teague, Texas to William and Vida (nee Lancaster) Whiteside and passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

    He married Beatrice S. Sappington on Friday, June 28, 1957 at Irving, Texas.
    Doug retired from Brown Group, after 43 years of dedicated service, working in the Retail Management Department for the company.
    In his younger years he enjoyed coaching youth sports; basketball, softball and baseball. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M.
    He enjoyed being outdoors, working on the yard, taking care of the flower gardens and fishing. He spent hours reading and whistling to country and gospel music. He was up to date on politics and very patriotic.
    Doug was proud of his Texas heritage and he would go to his high school reunion every year.
    He was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge #312 A.F. & A.M. and the Cuba Eastern Star Chapter #398. At the age of 16 Doug became a Christian and for the last few years they have attended Trinity Chapel Presbyterian Church, Cuba, Missouri.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Vida Whiteside; brother, Glenn Whiteside; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Guest.
    He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bea Whiteside of the home; four children, Tanya J. Whiteside of Cuba, Missouri, Sherlyn J. Whiteside of Chesterfield, Missouri, Regina and husband Thomas Martin of Chesterfield, Missouri and Chann and wife Tracy Whiteside of O’Fallon, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Troy and wife Mandy Wyatt of Cuba, Missouri, Teah and husband Kevin Griffin of St. Louis, Missouri, Coby and wife Leanne Feltner of New Port News, Virginia, Shawn and husband Jeffrey Young of Ballwin, Missouri, Toree and husband Zac Williams of Lansing, Michigan, Loren and husband Rick Goudreau of New York City, New York, Jacob T. Martin of New York City, New York, Carson W. Whiteside of O’Fallon, Missouri, Mason M. Whiteside of O’Fallon, Missouri and Nolan C. Whiteside of O’Fallon, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Riley Wyatt, Bailey Wyatt, Reese Griffin and Presley Young; one sister, Joyce Guest of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Fred Whiteside of Fairfield, Texas and Randy Whiteside of Fairfield, Texas; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri with a 7 p.m. Masonic Service.
    Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Trinity Chapel, Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Jeff Snell officiating.
    Special music was “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “When I Get Where I’m Going”, “Beyond the Sunset” and “You Raise Me Up.”
    Interment and prayers followed at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
    Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri.
