Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Missouri Central Railroad receive negotiation extension for Rock Island Line Corridor

The U.S. Surface Transportation Board has approved a request submitted by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Missouri Central Railroad seeking an additional 133 days to negotiate an agreement to railbank 144 miles of the former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad corridor stretching from Windsor to Beaufort, Missouri.

Last fishing trip before school starts was a good one

    Where did the summer go? That became the topic of discussion as I bounced two young boys down a rough forested, farm lane headed towards our favorite fishing spot. We anxiously looked forward to our last fishing fling together before school started.

Spider webs make this a rough time of year in the woods

    As much as I like to be in the woods, this is a rough time because of all the spider webs across trails. One of the old Front Bench Regulars in the pool hall back home said that God didn’t create spiders, ticks and flies. He said they were here when God got here, before He went to creating the good stuff. Darn, they make me itch and get miserable. I don’t remember them being here when I was a kid because I hunted squirrels in the hickories in late August.
