Harvest Festival 2019 is next week! Steelville’s annual fall festival will kick off events on Tuesday, September 3, and daily activities will be offered through Sunday, September 8. The theme for this year’s festival is “Once Upon a Dream,” and the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations sponsor a range of events during the festival.
It’s rodeo time again! Rain or shine, the annual Ozark Trailblazers Rodeo will be held during Harvest Festival in Steelville next week.
The Steelville School Board met in regular session on August 15. During the meeting the board:
• Held the annual tax rate hearing as required by law and approved the 2019 tax rate at $3.9521 per $100 assessed valuation for the 2019 tax year, up from $3.9225 in 2018. These rates are established by the state and are based on assessed valuation changes within the district. The new rate is expected to bring in an additional $99,333 in revenue for the district.
During its August 15 meeting, the Steelville School Board approved plans for a new elementary gym as part of a multi-phase $3.2 million building and improvement project at the elementary/middle school campus approved by voters earlier this year. The gym project is expected to cost between $1.7 and $2 million, with bids due on September 17.
The Steelville City Council approved hiring an additional lineman to work in the utility department during its meeting on Monday night, but the decision was not without some controversy. One council member felt there should be no new jobs created until the police department is fully staffed.
