Attendance was up at this year’s 50s-themed Cuba Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet, held at Recklein Auditorium on Friday, May 3. The Chamber recognized Crawford County R-2 Superintendent of Schools Jon Earnhart with the Man of the Year Award, while Annalee Williams of the Crawford County Library District Board of Directors received the Chamber’s Woman of the Year Award. Eight other awards were also doled out that evening.
The story for this project begins in Fall 2017. At that time, I partnered with Cuba Middle School and delivered a three-week “Ideas and Innovation Program” to the students and faculty of Cuba Middle School. Each week, I was allotted one hour on a Friday to present to the entire building. Fifth and sixth grade students would listen to the presentation for 25 minutes, and we would then have a five-minute break while the classes rotated to seventh and eighth graders for another 25 minutes.

District Governor Lion Joe Foster (left) presented the award and a tab for the Club banner to Cuba Lions Club President Lion David VanderWerf. Lions Clubs must complete and report service projects in all four of the required areas to receive the award.
