The St. James High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were among the big winners during the three-day sessions of the Licking Summer Camp over the weekend.
The St. James High School girls’ basketball team wrapped up a productive week by capturing the championship of its division in the Licking Summer Camp Shootout session held Thursday and Friday of last week in Rolla.
About a year ago Grant Conway was at probably his lowest point as a high school athlete. In 2018 the St. James two-sport all-stater was “The Man” in the 110-meter hurdles. He had the fastest time in the state and was supposed to go on to claim the 110 hurdle crown in the form of a state championship medal.
The St. James High School boys’ track team rode senior Grant Conway’s all-state hat trick to tie for fifth overall in the team standings with 24 points during the rescheduled Missouri Class 3 Track and Field Championships, held at Mizzou’s Walton Track/Soccer Stadium Saturday, May 25 in Columbia.
It’s not the largest contingent that St. James High School has ever sent to the track and field state championships. But with all eyes on senior Grant Conway, it is no doubt one of the most intriguing.
