Councilman questions tax levy

    The St. James City Council held a special session and public hearing Tuesday on the city tax levy. No public comment was heard, but Councilman Alan Sachs questioned the necessity of the council to vote on the state statute mandated levy set on the General Revenue, Parks and Recreation, and library. The levy, which is based on Phelps County’s valuation of all real estate, changed overall from $.07564 per $100 assessed valuation to $0.765 per $100 assessed valuation.
