Steelville Schools Report – January 2018

The following information was presented to the Steelville School Board at their January meeting.

ACADEMIC INFORMATION

Steelville Elementary School

Seventy-seven percent of students have met individual iReady goals after the first semester. 

Every grade level met grade level goals for their overall iReady scores.

Steelville Middle School

Students are currently setting third quarter Accelerated Reader goals.

All grade levels showed positive growth on iReady Math and ELA.

Steelville High School

Students have reviewed STAR data and are setting new goals.

Staff have been putting together information on the future internship program. Progress has been made towards offering this opportunity to our students.

 

STUDENT INFORMATION

Steelville Elementary School

There were 189 students with perfect attendance in December (55 percent of total students).

Third grade students have started prepping for their Famous Missourians night that will be held in March.

Steelville Middle School

Students were recently awarded with an activity day and bowling for iReady growth.

Science teacher Patty Pratt has been approved to begin preparation for re-entering students in the Science Olympiad.

Enrollment now includes three grade levels with more than 80 students.

Steelville High School

The ACT will be given on February 10 at the high school.

Students collected food items for the food pantry in honor of former teacher Phil Burdett, following his death.

 

FACULTY/STAFF INFORMATION

Steelville Elementary School

The elementary, middle, and high school PLC leadership teams will be attending the state PLC conference at Tan-Tar-A from January 28 to 30.

Several elementary math teachers will be attending a fluency conference in Rolla on January 19, to gain strategies on helping students improve their math facts fluency.

The PBIS Tier 2 team (Heather Ziegler, Zach Kennedy, Walter Heyer, Emily Weaver, and Stephanie Billingsley) has started a trial of the Tier 2 behavioral plan that will be implemented next year.

Steelville Middle School

The PLC Leadership team trained in Rolla on January 10. The emphasis was on building quality relationships with students.

The elementary, middle, and high school PLC leadership teams will be attending the state PLC conference at Tan-Tar-A from January 28 to 30.

A celebration is in the works for the middle school for improving the APR to 95 percent.

Steelville High School

PLC Leadership training was held in Rolla on January 11.

The elementary, middle, and high school PLC leadership teams will be attending the state PLC conference at Tan-Tar-A from January 28 to 30.

 

EXTRA/CO-CURRICULAR

Steelville Elementary School

Teacher Grace Hinson has been working with a group of fourth graders after school for the past three months in preparation for a math competition in Park Hills in February. Middle school students will also compete.

Steelville Middle School

Seventh and eighth grade girls volleyball has begun practice for the upcoming season.

Math competition this year will include all four grade levels at the middle school, instead of just eighth grade, as has been past practice. Fourth graders from the elementary will also compete.

Steelville High School

Preparations for homecoming are underway. Homecoming is February 9.

SHS hosted a GVC Speech meet on January 20.
