Boating for Buddies will be holding its ninth annual charity fundraiser this Saturday, February 10. The fundraiser will raise money for local families in need as they deal with medical issues. Presale tickets are still available at a discounted price leading up to the event.
This year’s event will be held at the St. James Community Center, located at 1500 West Springfield Street in the Nelson Hart Park. Dinner will be catered by Sonia Parry, Cynthia Blankenship, and Sheena Bratcher; and dinner will include roasted pork with gravy, chicken fettuccine, loaded mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, salad, rolls, ice tea, and lemonade. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.
The auctions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with auctioneering services provided by Gary Lorts, Justin Lorts, and Derek Faherty. There will also be a 50/50 raffle held during the evening. Cash and checks will only be accepted. Checks should be made payable to Boating for Buddies, Inc.
Proceeds generated through this fundraiser will help two local families. The first recipient is Oliver Wells, age four, of Rolla, who was diagnosed in June 2017 with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. His parents, Dallas and Rita Wells, have relocated their family temporarily to Texas, where Ollie has been receiving treatments. The family plans on returning to their home in Rolla when the time is appropriate. His grandparents are Cathy and Lonnie Wells, of St. James.
The second recipient is Lea Niedert, of St. James, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She is self-employed and has no health insurance, although she is attempting to qualify.
Presale tickets are available now at a discounted price for those wanting to attend this year’s event. Tickets are $20 per person or $35 for a couple. Children get in for $10 for ages 6 to 12.
