Fair sure to be ‘barrels of fun’ next week

The 72nd Annual Crawford County Fair returns to Hood Park in Cuba next week, and it will offer a wide array of family-styled entertainment. This year’s fair runs July 10-14 with a theme of “Barrels of Fun” for the whole family.

The fair opens on Tuesday with a Family Fun Night. There is free admission into the park that night, but arm bands for midway rides will cost $20 (all other days at the fair require gate admission fees, while midway rides are at no additional cost). The Crawford County Fair Parade through town starts at 6 p.m. At the fairgrounds, bacon judging takes place at 6 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall, and the Super Farmers Contest at the Livestock Arena is at 7:30 p.m. Blake Beckett performs on the Main Stage at 8 p.m., and the Fair Queen Talent Competition is at 9 p.m. on the Main Stage.

Wednesday’s entertainment features the Horse & Pony Show at the Ed Mitchell Livestock Arena at 6 p.m. The Children’s Pageant will be on the small stage at 6:30 p.m., an ATV Rodeo at the Main Arena at 7 p.m., Blake Beckett performing for a second consecutive night on the Main Stage at 8:30 p.m., and the Fair Queen Coronation on the Main Stage at 9 p.m. Daily admission is $15.

Livestock shows begin on Thursday with the Market Hog, Pee Wee Pig and Open Class Swine Show bright and early at 7 a.m. The Sheep and Goat Show is at 1 p.m. and the Cattle Show at 3 p.m. There is a Prince and Princess Contest at the Main Stage at 7 p.m., a Truck and Tractor Pull at the Main Arena at 7 p.m., and a Youth Pageant on the Main Stage at 8:30 p.m. Daily admission is $15.

Livestock shows continue Friday with the Poultry Show at 9 a.m. and the Rabbit Show at 10 a.m. Junior Livestock Judging is also at 10 a.m. in the barn area of the park. The Main Arena area features a Youth Tractor Pull at 4:30 p.m. and a Classic and Antique Tractor Show at 5:30 p.m. Kids get to participate in the Pedal Tractor Pull in front of the Food Stand at 5:30 p.m. Action at the Main Arena continues with tractor pulls at 7 p.m. Local band Alderwood will play the Beer Garden Stage at 6:30 p.m. and again at 10:30 p.m., and the Main Stage features Eric Paslay at 7:30 p.m. and Rodney Atkins at 9 p.m. Daily admission is $20.

The fair comes to a close on Saturday. The day kicks off with a Logging Rodeo at 9 a.m. The Livestock Buyers Luncheon is at noon, to be followed by the Livestock Auction at 1 p.m. Bull riding is featured at the Main Arena at 7 p.m. Musical entertainment includes Back Road Story at the Beer Garden Stage at 7 p.m. and a late-night set at 10:30 p.m., and Cody Johnson is the Main Stage entertainer at 9 p.m. Daily admission is $25.
