Rodeo includes riding, roping and more

Rodeo action returns to Steelville next week during Harvest Festival with the annual two-day Ozark Trailblazers Rodeo on Friday and Saturday, September 7-8. This year’s rodeo features the return of popular international rodeo entertainer Whistle-Nut and Ole, along with all the favorite rodeo events and trick riders, too.

The Ozark Trailblazers 2018 Harvest Festival Rodeo will go on rain or shine, kicking off each evening at 8 p.m. at the Ozark Trailblazers Arena, which is located four miles south of Steelville on Highway 19 South.

The rodeo will feature traditional events such as bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, cowgirls barrel racing, bull riding, breakaway roping and over-40 calf roping.

For kids, there will be mutton busting each night before the main rodeo at 7 p.m. The event is for children age seven and under, and is limited to 15 contestants per night. Registration begins at 6 p.m. at the arena. During the main portion of the rodeo, the “World’s Richest Calf Scramble” will be open to all children ages five to ten.

Rodeo tickets are available in advance for $8 for adults, $6 for children ages six to 12, and free for those five and under. Tickets may be purchased at the following local businesses: Flint’s Country Store (Steelville), Jim’s Motors (Cuba), First Community National Banks (Steelville and Cuba), Peoples Bank (Steelville and Cuba), Randy’s Tire & Auto (Steelville), Bowers & Cottrell General Store (Cherryville), Mobil On the Run (Steelville), and Shelter Insurance (Steelville).

Tickets at the gate go up to $10 for adults, $8 for children ages six to 12, but are still free for those five and under.

The Steelville rodeo is produced by Outlaw Rodeo Productions/5J Rodeo Company out of Curryville, Mo. Outlaw/5J Rodeo Company boasts that it “hosts the ultimate rodeo experience with all the elements to satisfy the traditional rodeo fan, but wild enough to excite the new breed of a rodeo fanatic.” The production company has entertained more than two million fans across the Midwest since 1988.

The Whistle-Nut & Ole Rodeo Team is a professional PRCA rodeo specialty act. Whistle-Nut (Jason Dent) is the barrel man, clown, and stuntman. Ole is Whistle-Nut's trained bull that he can ride like a horse.

The Double Trouble Trick Riders feature three sisters – including twins Brittany and Bethany, and their younger sibling Libby – who perform a number of awe-inspiring feats on horseback.
