Dale Allen Young, of Steelville, Missouri was born on Thursday, June 22, 1950 to Roy and Earline Young and passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 1 day.
He was involved in sports and loved the outdoors as a young man. In high school he had a band called “Dale Young and the Midwesterners.”
Dale served as a Police Officer for the City of Steelville with his brother Roy in the 1970s before beginning a career with Chrysler in Fenton, Missouri.
He married Mary “Gean” (Woods) Hickman on February 26, 1983.
His career took he and his family to Colorado for a short time from 1992-1995 before returning home to his hometown.
He was a member of the Fox Trotter Association of Ava, Missouri, UAW Local #136 and the NRA. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Steelville, Missouri. He liked swords and guns and collected knives. He enjoyed martial arts, singing and playing the guitar.
Dale retired from Chrysler in 2003. He loved raising and tending his Missouri Fox trotters, watching old westerns and doted heavily on his granddaughters Grace, Alyson and Lainie. On any given day he could be found making his appointed rounds in town, catching up, telling stories, laughing and reminiscing with longtime friends and family.
Hewas preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Earline Young; brothers, Roy Young and Gerald Young; parents-in-law, Myrt and Elsie Woods; brother-in-law, Willie (Audrey) Woods; sister-in-law, Beverly Woods; niece, Penny Sanders; and son-in-law, Andrew Destifanes.
He is survived by his wife, Mary “Gean” Young of Steelville, Missouri; son, Dale Allen Young II; daughter, Jamie (Jeremy) Schneider of Hillsboro, Missouri; step-children, Sandra Fink and Beth Destifanes, both of Steelville, Missouri and Michael (Robin) Hickman of De Soto, Missouri; grandchildren, Kal and Tyler Hickman; Nicole and Brian Bailey, Grace, Alyson and Lainie Schneider; great grandchildren, Jace, Noah, Peyton and Sawyer; brothers, Gaylord (Eloise) Young of Washington, Missouri and Clay (Virginia) Young of Steelville, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard “Dick” Woods of St. Louis, Missouri, Terry (Linda) Woods of Pacific, Missouri, Violet “Sis” (Estel) Sanders and Joyce Olney both of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral was Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating.
Burial was at the Steelville Cemetery.
