William James Neighbors of St. James, Missouri was born in St. James, Missouri on February 7, 1927 to William Henry and Virginia (Hume) Neighbors and passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the age of 91 years.
William was raised in St. James, Missouri and graduated in the class of 1945 from St. James High School.
Shortly after graduation, William proudly served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during WWII; this is where he met Ingrid Ehlert. The two were married on June 12, 1950.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, William worked as a machinist in the automotive industry for thirty years in St. Louis, Missouri. After his retirement he was very active in the Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows, York Rite, Scottish Rite and Shriner’s organization. When he wasn’t attending meetings, William enjoyed spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing and tending to his lawn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia Neighbors; his wife, Ingrid; two sons, Kenneth and Michael Neighbors; and sisters, Janet Forrester, Shirley Louise Neighbors and Lorene Brown.
He is survived by daughters, Patricia Sundays of Winfield, Missouri and Karen (John) Svejkosky of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Shelly, Ronnie (Amanda), John, Kimberly (Dan), Danna (Jason), Dannielle (Greg) and Johnny; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister, Betty Webster of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held at the Rolla Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary, Rolla, Missouri at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018 with a Masonic Service at 2:30 p.m.
An inurnment was held at Jefferson Barracks on Friday, October 26, 2018.
