Carolyn Sue Hemker

    Carolyn Sue Hemker of St. Clair, Missouri was born in St. Clair, Missouri on September 15, 1948 to Edwin Leo and Susie Ann Downey (nee Hawkins) and passed away on November 4, 2018 at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 19 days.

    As a young woman she was united in marriage and blessed to have three children.
    On May 1, 1994 she began sharing her life with Gary Palmer and their families were joined as one.
    Carolyn was a Christian, having been raised in the Baptist faith.
    During her working career she was employed at International Shoe Company in St. Clair, Missouri for several years. After the factory closed she worked as a waitress in the restaurant industry at various places, included Haefner’s in St. Clair. She also owned and operated C& D Game Room in St. Clair for five years. She was a friendly and upbeat woman with a great spirit. She was a talented seamstress, loved to go to NASCAR and stock car races and also had a lot of fun going to Six Flags with her children and grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Downey and Susie Downey Wagner; step-father, Raymond Wagner; and two brothers, Kenneth Downey and Gene Downey.
    She is survived by her life companion, Gary Palmer of St. Clair, Missouri; son, Arlin Hemker of St. Clair, Missouri; daughters, Vickie Haffer and husband Steven of Bourbon, Missouri and Sherry Ifland and husband Mike of St. Clair, Missouri; foster daughters, Tracy Cherryhomes and husband Tom of Villa Ridge, Missouri and Missy Powell and life companion Adam of St. Clair, Missouri; by Gary’s children, Matthew Palmer of St. Clair, Missouri and Michelle Palmer of Kansas City, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Todd Hemker and fiancée Amanda of St. Clair, Missouri, Toby Hemker of St. Clair Missouri, Alyssa and Breanna Ifland of St. Clair, Missouri, Brandt Palmer, Matty Palmer, Colton Palmer and Emmett Siess, all of St. Clair, Missouri; two brothers, Floyd Downey and wife Judy of St. Clair, Missouri and Bill Downey and wife Donna of St. Clair, Missouri; three sisters, Jody Halmich and husband Gary of St. Clair, Missouri, Donna Ejchler and husband Stanley of St. Clair, Missouri and Judy George of St. Clair, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, Missouri with the Rev. Fern Nye officiating.
    Interment was in Green Mound Cemetery in St. Clair, Missouri.
    Arrangements under the direction of the Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, Missouri.
