Donald “Don” Lee Spurgeon


    Donald  “Don” Lee Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri was born on November 1, 1945 in Rolla, Missouri to Omar and Gertrude (Howard) Spurgeon and passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the age of 73 years.


    He married Nancy Campbell on January 24, 1970 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
    Don did custom hay baling for many years and enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing when he was younger and was an avid outdoorsman and especially mushroom hunting.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; Omar and Gertrude Spurgeon; brothers, James “Jim” Spurgeon and Gene Spurgeon; brothers-in-law, Ervin Hendrickson and Jack Shafferkoetter; and sister-in-law, Lucille Campbell.
    He is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home; children, Tammy and husband Greg Durham of Union, Missouri, Tina Ely and companion Ben Hunter of Bourbon, Missouri and Donnie Spurgeon of Cuba, Missouri; five grandchildren, Megan Ely and companion William  West of Cuba, Missouri, Abbie Ely of Bourbon, Missouri, Justin Durham of Union, Missouri, Ely Hunter of Owensville, Missouri and  Mason Hunter of Bourbon, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Maria and Waylon West of Cuba, Missouri and Landyn Hunter of Owensville, Missouri; sisters, Ruth Hendrickson of Owensville, Missouri and Frances and husband Charlie Sutter of Nixa, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Betty Spurgeon of Owensville, Missouri, Pat Shafferkoetter of Sullivan, Missouri and Fannie and husband Joe Lea of Cuba, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Mike and wife Rosemary Campbell, Gary Campbell and Steve and wife Christine Campbell all of Cuba, Missouri and Dave and wife Terry Campbell of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Missouri.
    Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 23 at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Missouri with Josh Brown officiating.  
    Burial was in the Bowen Cemetery at Red Bird, Missouri.
