SHS golfers sweep first match

    The Steelville High School golf team opened its 2019 in style on March 21, defeating both Crocker and Belle in a match played at Ft. Leonard Wood. The Cardinals also played in Salem on March 26 and came in fourth in a six-team field.

    Steelville’s Jackson Case led everyone at Ft. Leonard Wood with a round of 52, while Courtney Lea finished third overall with a 63. Drew Martin and Lydia Sexton both shot 68 to finished tied for seventh.
    At Salem, Case again led the Cardinals with a third-place finish after a round of 48. Lea was 11th with 62, Ryan Cottrell 18th with 68, and Martin 23rd with 70.  The low score of the match was a 44. Salem won the event.
    “I am seeing a lot of progress with the team as they continue to develop,” said Coach Ben Martin.
    The Cardinals are now 4-3 on the season.
    The Steelville golfers played in Dixon Monday and Belle Tuesday. They will be back in action on Monday, April 8, at West County.
