Steelville man arrested with meth and loaded guns

Crawford County Sheriff Darin Layman issued the following press release on Thursday afternoon, April 18:

On April 17, members of LANEG and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office executed a drug related search warrant south of Steelville. As a result, approximately 193 grams of crystal methamphetamine, digital scales, two loaded handguns, one laptop, and other items were located and seized. One white male suspect, identified below, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Facility for processing. On today's date, a warrant was issued for two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, one count of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and two counts of Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia with a bond of $10,000 against: Travis Townzen, 34 years of age from Steelville.

The charges at this time are mere allegations and the defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty.

I would like to thank the work of LANEG and our Deputies for their work on this case. As with many cases it can take time and information to develop before a solid case can be built and acted upon. This case has been in process for several months and resulted in significant interruption to controlled substances peddled within our county. Great work by all.
