Two Tigers headed to state golf tourney

    Two members of the St. James High School boys’ golf team have moved on to the Missouri Class 2 State Tournament through Section 1 competition Monday, May 6 at Cape Girardeau Country Club.


    Seniors Micah Bartle and Isaac Helterbrand are the STJ Tigers who have moved on to the Class 2 State Tournament.
    The low 20 scorers and two top finishing teams move on to the state tournament, to be held May 13-14 at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.
    Bartle placed eighth individually Monday by carding 17-over-par 87 while Helterbrand tied for 14th with 92.
    Advancing to the sectional tournament as a full team, St. James finished fourth of five teams with 389. Willow Springs won the Section 1 team crown with 351 while Kennett was runner-up with 354 to move on to state while Cuba was third with 373.
    Willow Springs’ Brandon Marcak earned medalist honors with 81 and Cuba’s Paven Clark tied for second with 83.
    Also for St. James, freshman Harrison Janes tied for 25th with 99 and sophomore Jacob Rinehart and senior Hannah Shasserre tied for 38th with 111.

April 30 - Class 2 District 2
    The Tigers advanced to sectional competition as a full squad by placing second in the Missouri Class 2 District 2 Tournament Tuesday, April 30 at Randall Hinkle Golf Course in Mountain Grove.
    The top two finishing teams from district move on to Class 2 Sectional play. Willow Springs was the District 2 champion with 348 while St. James was runner-up with 374.
    At the district tourney Tuesday, the rainy weather held off and the event was held under sunny skies.
    Willow Springs’ Ryan Cawvey was district medalist, shooting 3-over-par 74. Bartle was individual runner-up with 80. Also earning all-district honors for the Tigers were Helterbrand with 89 and Janes with 96.
    Other scores for STJ, Shasserre shot 109 and Rinehart 117.
