Virginia Janet Underwood of Marshfield, Missouri, formerly of St. James, Missouri was born on April 28, 1927 in Cuba, Missouri to John Samuel and Cora Mahala (Pease) Wikey and passed away on May 12, 2019 at the age of 92 years and 10 days.
She married Bernard Underwood in February 1952, in St. James, Missouri. Bernard was serving in the Air Force at the time.
After Bernard’s military service they moved to Springfield, Missouri and then to Rogersville, raising five children. She worked many jobs after raising their family. Together Bernard and Virginia owned and operated the St. James Flagpole Company until retiring in 2004.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Samuel and Cora Mahala Wikey; husband, Bernard Underwood in 2008; one son, Gregory Underwood in 1980; and five sisters, Mildred K. Wikey, Gertrude Marklun, Margaret Carey, Winifred Tavener and Hildred A. Richart.
She is survived by three sons, Tracy Underwood and wife Debra of Seymour, Missouri, Blev and wife Teresa Underwood of Red Lodge, Montana and Mark Underwood and wife Connie of Strafford, Missouri; one daughter, Pam Bernatowicz and husband Steve of Toms River, New Jersey; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Skaggs Chapel Cemetery in Belle, Missouri.
