Steelville Arts Council is celebrating its 7th annual Plein Air event this week, with painting, judging and receptions having begun on Monday, and the final gala dinner and auction scheduled for Friday, June 7.
The forecast may be predicting rain, but that won't stop these serious artists. One of our sayings is, “Plein Air is not for sissies!” We'll find out if that holds true in 2019. Rain or shine, 50 artists will be out and about all week painting fields, rivers and trees. There is even one day devoted specifically to painting local barns. If you happen to see them on a farm near your home, please stop and observe for a while, you'll be amazed at their genuine artistic ability.
You can also visit Gallery Zeke on Main Street in Steelville throughout the week to see the award-winning paintings on display.
The gala dinner and auction will be held on Friday, June 7 at Just A Taste in St. James, beginning at 6 p.m. with a social hour and time to view the paintings on display. Dinner is at 7 p.m., and the auction will follow. Tickets are $51.25 on the Steelville Arts Council website (steelvilleartscouncil.org).
Hundreds of pieces of artwork from the talented artists participating in the event will be offered for sale to the public at the Steelville Community Building on Saturday, June 8 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
