Stephen R. Jannings

    Stephen Ritter Jannings of Bourbon, Missouri was born on July 15, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri to Stephen Platinum and Christina Henrietta (Ritter) Jannings and passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the age of 87 years.

    He lived parts of his childhood in St. Louis, Missouri but mostly grew up on the family farm in Lohmann, Missouri.
    On January 26, 1955 Stephen married Evelyn Marie LaValle in St. Louis, Missouri, at the Messiah Lutheran Church.
    He and Evelyn were a foster family and welcomed many young people into their home over the years.
    Stephen was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church of Leasburg, Missouri, where he served as a trustee for several years.
    As a young man, Stephen worked for McDonald Aircraft, served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953, and then worked at the St. Louis Terminal Rail Road, the St. Louis Water Department and eventually for the St. Louis Fire Department where he enjoyed a 27 year career.
    After retiring from the fire department, he went to work for the City of Sullivan Parks Department for 11 years.
    He felt blessed to have had an opportunity to drive a steam locomotive when he was younger and to usher at Sportsman Park for the last game the St. Louis Browns played there.
    Stephen loved to spend time outdoors, gardening, with his family, and fishing, especially cat fishing at the family farm on the Moreau River and at Uncle Dean’s cabin on the Bourbeuse River.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Jannings; parents, Stephen and Christina Jannings; and one sister, Audrey Scheperley.
    He is survived by his children, Timothy Shane Jannings of Gerald, Missouri, Daniel Joseph Jannings of Bourbon, Missouri, Pamela Ann Kerby and life partner Robert Klaeger of Sullivan, Missouri and Michael Scott Jannings and wife Shelley of Bourbon, Missouri; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his canine buddy, Shirley; friend, Randy Pyatt; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri and from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Cross Roads Baptist Church.
    Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Cross Roads Baptist Church in Leasburg, Missouri with Pastor Lane Allen as the officiant.
    Interment followed in the Cross Roads Cemetery.
    Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan and Bourbon, Missouri.
