Four area chefs from Steelville, Cuba, and St. James will be squaring off in a friendly competition on Father’s Day to benefit an area non-profit. The Father’s Day Burger Bash will be hosted by Peaceful Bend Winery from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, with all burger sale proceeds going to the Community Child Care Center in Steelville.
Chefs August Rolufs and Jeramia Schafer, of Peaceful Bend in Steelville, will be joined by Chef Alex Giger, of Just a Taste in St. James, and Chef Sam DeClue, of The FourWay in Cuba, in a battle to determine who makes the best burger. Sponsors for the event include Peaceful Bend Winery, Moon Dance Farm, Ozark Forest Mushrooms, Three Rivers Publishing, First Community National Bank, and the Sikes family, who loaned a grill for the event.
Featured burgers of the day will be: an Ozark Burger by Rolufs featuring Ozark Forest Mushroom criminis, gruyere cheese, and Brush Creek Valley Farm jowl; a South of the Border Burger by Schafer with roasted poblano, manchego cheese, and chili lime crema, seasoned with cumin, paprika, and chili powder; A K-POP burger by Giger with kimchi cucumber slaw, charred scallion mayo, toasted seaweed and sesame bun; and a SMASH burger by DeClue with thinly sliced onion, American cheese, house pickles, and beef tallow aioli. The chefs will also be making their own chips with a fryer donated by Lee and Theresa Watson.
Customers during the fundraisers can purchase one four-ounce burger for $6, or get all four for $20. There will also be music by Blake Gardner and the Farmers from 2 to 5 p.m. No reservations are required.
