Several area fire departments were represented at the first responder training event held in Steelville on Thursday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28. Firefighters from Cuba, Bourbon, Gerald-Rosebud, Sullivan, and Steelville were involved. The course covered advanced extrication techniques for new car technology. The classroom training was held at the Steelville firehouse on Thursday evening and covered new vehicle construction and SRS systems. The practical portion of the event involved learning advanced techniques on modern vehicles in challenging scenarios. A variety of vehicles were set up in the gravel-storage area on Industrial Drive for that portion of the course. The class was sponsored by the Steelville Fire Protection District and the Crawford County Chiefs Association.
