The St. James Chamber of Commerce is preparing for this year’s annual Grape and Fall Festival, which will be held from September 3-7. Volunteers are still needed for this year’s events and the Chamber is asking anyone who would be willing to donate some time to sign up for various events.

This year’s theme is “Country Roads Take Me Home” and there are big events taking place every day of the festival. Some of the biggest needs include help at back stage and in the green room during the two major concerts. Volunteers are still needed to assist on Wednesday, September 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. when We are Vessel and Skylee Shea perform.
The concert on Saturday night, September 7, featuring headliner William Michael Morgan, with opening by Austin Burke, also needs help. Three slots are available Saturday, including one from 3 to 6 p.m., 6 to 9 p.m., and 9 p.m. to midnight. Volunteers will be responsible for keeping unauthorized people from entering the area and keeping the backstage clean.
Concert volunteers are also needed to help check in volunteers, pass out badges, provide instructions, and help with other duties during the concerts. Several time slots are still in need of filling during Wednesday and Saturday and a full list of times available is available on the Chamber’s website.
Help to staff the annual beer garden is also needed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Volunteers will be required to check identification and to only sell alcohol to those 21 and over, to keep the beer garden clean, and to ensure safety. Times are available Thursday and Friday nights from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and 7:30 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and 8 to 11 p.m.
The Chamber of Commerce cook shack need staff throughout the week and volunteers tend to the cash register, take orders, serve guests, and assist as necessary. Two shifts are open on Wednesday and Thursday between 4:30 and 10 p.m., on Friday between noon and 11 p.m., and Saturday between 11:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. There are still slots open during those times as well for those who would like to cook food on the grill or in the kitchen wrapping and preparing food items for orders as they are taken.
There are also othervolunteer opportunities throughout the week, such as assisting with parking cars, helping with parade lineup, assisting with the demo derby pit passes, setup and tearing down of activities such as the queen pageant, and many more. For a full list of volunteer opportunities or to sign up for a position, visit the Chamber of Commerce website at www.stjameschamber.net and click the events tab to find the Grape and Fall Festival information page.
Online signups can be done through the webpage as well as other opportunities to get involved with this year’s event. The Chamber could not put on the festival without the help of local community members, who make the event a fun and safe one each year.
