Bourbon High School played host to the annual Warhawks cross country meet on September 16 and senior Kyleigh Gibbs was the individual varsity girls winner.
Gibbs won the race with a time of 25:12, finishing ahead of Cuba’s Melayna Brown in second with a time of 26:17. Also for the Lady Warhawks, Kylie Clasen was 19th in 41:16.
The BHS boys finished sixth as a team with 95 points. St. James was first with 56, Cuba second with 74, Lighthouse Prep third with 82, Kingston fourth with 88, and Vienna fifth with 92. Noah Estes, of Kingston, won the race in 19:19.
Sophomore Caleb Sappington led the Warhawks with a fifth-place finish in 21:49. Also for Bourbon, Kristian Speaks was 21st in 24:31, Richard Converse 24th in 25:29, Dakota Orton 26th in 25:54, Malachi Radford 31st in 27:05, Zach Tweedle 35th in 29:12, and Austin Reeves 38th in 30:08.
In the MS girls race, Steelville took first with 29 points, while Cuba was second with 41, and Bland third with 99. Bourbon did no field a full team.
For the BMS girls, Mia Gebhart was 12th in 12:14. Steelville’s Aleah Collinson won the race in 10:32.
Steelville also won the MS boys race with 21 points. Bourbon was second with 40, and Kingston third with 71. Luke Shields, of St. James, won the race in 9:20.
For Bourbon, Beau Beckett was fifth in 10:00, Brennan Bouse sixth in 10:04, Eli Sappington 14th in 10:30, Keaton Gibbs 15th in 10:32, Everett Pratt 20th in 10:55, Andrew Fuchs 26th in 12:19, Tyson McMullin 45th in 15:51, Dustin Lappe 46th in 15:54, Russell Politte 51st in 17:23, Kaleb Cole 52nd in 17:30, Titus Nolie 54th in 19:13, and Brett Butyenek 55th in 19:51.
The teams also competed in Steelville on September 19. Sappington led the varsity boys with a 19th-place finish in 19:58, while Radford was 40th in 24:17 and Converse 41st in 24:40.
In the JV race, Orton was sixth in 22:50, Kristian Speaks ninth in 23:15, Reeves 10th in 24:01, and Ryan Cain 23rd in 28:18.
In the varsity girls race, Gibbs finished third in 23:30, and Clasen was 25th in 35:13.
For the BMS girls, Gebhart finished 21st in 13:10.
The BMS boys finished fifth as a team. For the Warhawks, Bouse was ninth in 10:38, Beckett 15th in 10:57, Sappington 33rd in 11:32, Pratt 39th in 11:48, Gibbs 40th in 11:49, Fuchs 52nd in 12:26, McMullin 101st in 14:59, Politte 104th in 15:18, Dustin Lappe 108th in 15:54, Dominic Rippeto 112th in 16:11, Cole 121st in 17:32, Nolie 121st in 17:32, and Butyenek 128th in 19:12.
The Bourbon cross country teams will be back in action Thursday in Belle before heading to St. James on October 2.
