JV volleyball squad finishes second at Potosi tournament - PHOTO GALLERY

    The JV Lady Cardinals volleyball team finished second at the Potosi tournament on Saturday. The SHS girls were undefeated in pool play, but lost to the home team after reaching the championship match.

    The Lady Cards defeated Kingston, Potosi, and Cuba in pool play. Steelville swept Kingston 25-20 and 25-20, Potosi 25-22 and 25-23, and Cuba 25-15 and 25-18.
    Against Kingston, Laine Cottrell had one ace, two kills, and one block, Daylan Pryor two aces and two kills, Abigail Ireland one ace and one kill, Tobi Pennock one kill and one block, Tabby Rogers one ace and one kill, and Emma Kreitner two kills.
    In the Potosi match, Cottrell had one ace and two kills, Pennock two aces and two kills, Rogers one ace, two kills, and one block, and Sexton two kills and one block.
    And against Cuba, Cottrell had two aces and four kills, Ireland three kills, Pennock two kills, Roger three kills, Kreitner one ace and one kill, Courtney Diaz two kills, and Sexton three aces and one kill.
    The Lady Cards advanced to the championship from pool play, but fell to Potosi 12-25 and 15-25.
    The Lady Cardinals hosted Licking on October 4 and were swept by the Wildcats. The varsity lost 10-25 and 6-25 and the JV fell 19-25 and 24-26.
    For the varsity, Naomi Perkins and Daylan Pryor each had three kills. In the JV match, Cottrell had five aces and one kill, Pryor one ace and one kill, and Rogers one ace and three kills.
    The Lady Cards played in Cuba on October 3 and swept the Lady Wildcats. The varsity won 25-22 and the 25-20 and the JV won 25-18 and 25-23.
    For the varsity, Courtney Diaz had nine good serves, Sydney Booker three aces and three kills, and Pryor, Lauren Davis and Perkins each had two kills. In the JV match, Cottrell had five aces and two kills, Ireland one ace and one kill, Pennock two aces and one kill, and Kreitner two aces and two kills.
    Steelville hosted Belle on October 4 and again earned another sweep. The varsity won 25-22 and 25-21 after the JV defeated the Tigers 25-13 and 25-13.
    Diaz had four assists and 13 good serves for the varsity, while Davis had two blocks and six kills and Pennock seven assists. For the JV Cottrell had three aces and  one kill, Ireland four aces and two kills, and Rogers three kills.
    After playing in Dixon Tuesday, the Lady Cardinals will be back in action Thursday at Belle before the varsity heads to the Licking tournament on Saturday. They will also host Cuba Monday and play at Bourbon Tuesday.
