Tressie Elizabeth (nee Butt) Humphrey of Highlandville, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born May 3, 1918 in Steelville to Henry and Zelma Slowensky Butt and passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the age of 101 years, 5 months and 7 days.
On May 4, 1937 Tressie married Luther T. Humphrey.
Tressie graduated from Steelville High School, earned her teaching certificate and taught one year at Slowensky School. She then went to work at Scott’s Steelville Supply in 1943 and retired from there in 1983. Tressie was a 50 year member of the local Order of the Eastern Star. She spent many hours gardening, working on her farm and taking care of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Zelma Butt; husband, Luther Humphrey; one daughter, Loretta Mae Weber; infant brother, Joseph Henry Butt; a half-brother, Chester Jewell Butt who died in France in the Battle of Argonne, November 1918; and a half-sister, Mabel Butt.
She is survived by her daughter, Selma “Jean” Humphrey Dulany and husband Ray of Highlandville, Missouri; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special memories were shared by great granddaughter Crystal Cowan. Special music of “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace” was sung by Bob and Carol Coleman.
Committal prayer and interment was in the Keysville Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Joe Dulany, Dan Dulany, Billy Weber, Bobby Weber, Ronny Weber and Ryan Weber.
