Festival of Lights returning to St. James

The St. James Lions Club is holding its annual Festival of Lights to light up the downtown plaza for the holidays. Those interested in having a display can begin doing so on November 16.

Businesses, organizations, and individuals can register for a space, which can be decorated on the grounds in the downtown plaza. Electric will be free 24/7 for those needing it and spots are available now for any new or returning participant.
The St. James Lions Club is working with the city of St. James to provide all the necessary outlets and power for displays to run lights, blow up displays, or other needs. Displays can be setup along the railroad tracks on Washington and Springfield streets.
The light display program coincides with other annual Christmas activities that will be taking place in the over the next month, including the annual Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony, and Lion’s Club members encourage those who want to install a display to match this year’s St. James Chamber of Commerce theme “Christmas Through a Child’s Eyes.” although it is not necessary.
Setup opens November 16 and will continue until December 6. Spaces will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The annual Christmas parade will travel past the downtown plaza as it travels from the high school to the Missouri Veteran’s Home, so displays will be seen by parade viewers as well as those traveling through St. James during the holidays.
There is no charge to participate. Anyone with questions or who wants to learn more is encouraged to contact De Henderson at 573-699-4192.
