Steelville Mayor Michael Keen was injured in a one-vehicle accident this morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol online traffic crash report, Keen, age 50, was a passenger in a 2018 Ford E350 van driven by Gregory Martin, 59, of Cuba. At 5:45 a.m., while eastbound on Interstate 44, one mile east of Cuba, the van ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.
Keen, noted as exempt from wearing a safety device, sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported by a North Crawford County ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.
Martin was wearing a seatbelt, but received serious injuries, and was transported by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
Damage to the van was total, and it was towed from the scene by Chris and Sons Towing.
