Chamber awards nominations due January 10

The St. James Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for annual awards, which will be presented during its annual banquet on Friday, February 7 at Just a Taste. The deadline to nominate someone for this year’s awards will be Friday, January 10 and the Chamber encourages the community to nominate someone deserving to be recognized.

Two new awards, Future Leader of the Year and Chamber Volunteer of the Year awards, have been added to the Business of the Year, Organization of the Year, Citizen of the Year, and the Lifetime Achievement awards to be presented. The awards are given to various community and business leaders who have gone above and beyond to improve and aid the community over the past year or several years.
Future Leader of the Year will go to a youth or teen who shows a volunteer spirit or who supports the community through their efforts. Chamber Volunteer of the Year will be given to a community member the Chamber Board of Directors feels went above and beyond to help with various events throughout the year or who has shown support for the many things taking place in St. James all year long.
Citizen of the Year is awarded to an individual who, over the past year, has volunteered his or her time to improve the quality of life in the community with no expectation of compensation. This award recognizes a person who goes above and beyond to make St. James a better place to live.
Organization of the Year is intended to recognize non-profit organizations that positively impact the community through their services or actions throughout the year. This award highlights a group who supports the community and works to improve it through their actions.
Business of the Year is given to a business in good standing with the community, who demonstrates good employee and customer relations, and who contributes to the betterment of the community. Many of the volunteers who work to improve the community come from St. James businesses and the award allows the Chamber and community to recognize them for their actions.
The Lifetime Achievement Award honors the individual who has volunteered his or her time in St. James over several years, dedicating themselves to bettering the community. This award is the highest honor bestowed by the Chamber each year.
Nominees may be from youth organizations, civic groups, area churches, emergency responders, schools, and businesses. Nominees do not have to be a member of the Chamber. Criteria for all awards are available at the Tourist Information Center or on the Chamber of Commerce website at
Nomination forms are available on the Chamber website or inside the Tourist Information Center and can be filled out and submitted prior to the deadline. On the website, there is a document with a list of questions and criteria for each award, along with instruction for submitting a nomination.
