The Vichy Vol. Fire Department's Annual Old-Fashioned Pie Supper, Dessert Auction and Cake Walk is at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the Vichy Firehouse and Community Hall. The event will include the pie auction, cake walks, music and contests.
Food and refreshments will also be available, beginning at 5 p.m. Food will be a-la-carte and will include hamburgers, chicken and ham salad sandwiches, chili, nachos, hot dogs, and pie.
Donations of pies, cakes, auction items, surprise gifts and gift baskets are gladly accepted.
Live music, provided by Doc's Circle, will begin the evening’s events at 6 p.m. The dessert auction will begin around 6:45 p.m. with local auctioneers auctioning off pies, cakes, baskets and other gifts.
Donations for the auction are welcomed and needed as are generous bidders. A children's cake walk will be held during the auction, and the regular cake walk with begin after the pie auction.
The pie supper will also be the site of the twelfth annual election for the Mayor of Vichy. Mayoral candidates will share campaign information about 6:30 p.m. with election results being announced later in the evening.
Sadly, Mayor Barker, the Beagle, passed away in October 2019, and the position has been vacant since then. So far, two pooches and a guinea pig have entered the race. There is still time to enter the race by placing a donation can and campaign material at the Maries County Bank in Vichy. It is expected that campaign signs will soon be appearing around Vichy. Voting containers (collection cans) be on display at the Maries County Bank in Vichy until Saturday, March 14.
Area residents can cast their money votes in the collection containers at the bank until 10 a.m. on March 14 and then at the pie supper. (No voter identification required!) Area pets and/or their owners will “campaign” during the pie supper with final voting to occur that evening, and a winner announced. All proceeds will benefit the Vichy Fire Department.
The fire department also will begin a quilt raffle at the pie supper. The quilt was embroidered by the late Wilma Tipton and donated by her family. Tickets will be available at the pie supper and at upcoming fire department dinners.
The department has made the pie supper an annual event, after community members requested a follow up to the May 1996 event. All profits from the supper will go toward maintaining and upgrading the department's equipment and building, said Bonnie Prigge, VVFD president.
