Arlin “Gus” William Head


    Arlin “Gus” William Head of Steelville, Missouri was born on Tuesday, August 24, 1937 in Fredericktown, Missouri to William Obie and Nellie Sheppard Head and passed away  Monday, March 2, 2020 at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 7 days.


    On August 29, 1970 Gus married Tessie Jane (Midyett) Volner.
    Gus loved kids and loved to take them camping on the river.  He always took six of Tessie’s nieces and nephews camping.  They loved to swim and float the Huzzah.
    Gus worked for Brown Shoe Company for a few years and later became a police officer in Steelville, Missouri and then Bourbon, Missouri.  He worked at Circle C Ranch and then Roaring Springs in St. Clair, Missouri where he was a groundskeeper and raised Black Angus cattle.  
    He was a Golden Gloves Boxer in St. Louis, Missouri for many years.  He liked riding four wheelers.  Gus enjoyed his routine of going to the coffee shop, then to Golden Echoes to play pool and then shining his truck.  
    In the fall of 1974, Gus and Tessie gave their hearts to Jesus at the First Assembly of God Church with Brother Massey.  He watched Jimmy Swaggart on Sunday mornings.  
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Nellie Head; parents-in-law, Corby and Dora (Medley) Midyett; daughter, Lesa Ann Walker; sisters, Ruth Ann Roherer and Vicky Williams; sisters-in-law, Rose (Tom) Bailey, Velma (Joe) Bailey, Gladyne (Bill) Newman and Carol McMillan; and brothers-in-law, Cecil Midyett and Lloyd Midyett.
    He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Tessie Head of Steelville, Missouri;   sons, Jerry Head (fiancée Jennifer Hasting) of St. Clair, Missouri and Rick (Debbie) Marcucci of Des Moines, New Mexico; brothers, Roger (JoAnn) Head of Springfield, Missouri and Steve Head of Texas; sisters, Kathy (Gary) Lynchard of Bourbon, Missouri and Peggy (Steve) Pratte of Sullivan, Missouri; sister-in-law, Connie Midyett of Cuba, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Carrie Blocker of Washington, Missouri; son-in-law, Kevin Walker of Cook Station, Missouri; grandchildren, Chad (JoAnn) Walker, Nikki Walker, Renee Schneider, Jerod (Debbie) Head, J.D. (Tasha) Head, Aaron Head (Leighanne Price) and Casey (Michael) Shelton.  great grandchildren Kevin Overshon, Phin Schneider, Liam Schneider, Tiana Gleason, Averie Head, Jonah Head, Spencer Head, Emily Head, Austin Head, Cambreah Head, Kaylee Shelton and Jade Shelton;  step great grandchildren, Kim Reimund, Marissa Reimund-Keith, Raeelynn Reimund, Miley McKinley, Eleecea Evans, Mya Evans and Kiarra Evans; other relatives and friends.
    Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the First Assembly of God in Steelville, Missouri.
    Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. at the First Assembly of God in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.
    The family chose cremation as his final disposition.
    Arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
