Librarians to host book giveaway June 3

St. James school librarians will be hosting a book give away event on June 3 for students as they enter the summer months. The event will be held in the Lucy Wortham James Elementary School parking lot from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

“This has turned into an amazing collaborative effort with the St. James Caring Center and the Friends of the Library group generously donating books to this cause,” elementary Librarian Hope Hunter explained.
The event is open to any student in the district, from Tiger Cubs through the senior class. The goal is to give students books to read while school is out on summer break or longer and to help promote literacy as students have not been in the classroom for the past few months.
Social distancing guidelines will be in effect throughout the day and families are encouraged to come pick out a book for each child in the household. Books will be set up behind the maintenance shed in the elementary school parking lot, across from the main entrance, and parents will park in front of the shed, waiting to browse and select their book. This is a district-wide initiative by librarians and all are encouraged to attend the free event.
