Crawford County reports 10th COVID-19 case - UPDATED

The Crawford County Health Department (CCHD) released information on its tenth positive case of COVID-19 in Crawford County on June 17. This announcement follows that of the ninth case on June 13, the first two cases reported in Crawford County since April 29.

            The patient is currently isolated, and the family is currently quarantined at home.

            CCHD has worked with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to conduct an investigation in an effort to identify any individual that may have come in close contact with the positive individual to monitor them for symptoms and assist in the containment of the virus. Any close contacts will be contacted privately by the CCHD.

            Individuals at the following locations on the dates below are at low risk for contracting COVID-19, but should monitor for symptoms. Low-risk types of exposure are listed as a date, location, and approximate time, with further instructions to follow CDC guidelines. In these situations, no specific individual can be pinpointed, an exposure may or may not have occurred, but everyone needs to be alert of the possibility of exposure. 

            In this case, the potential exposures were on Friday, June 12 after 3 p.m. at Walmart in Cuba for approximately 30 minutes (wearing a mask) and on Sunday, June 14 from approximately 11:30 a.m. throughout the afternoon as follows: at Long John Silver’s in Rolla (not wearing a mask while dining-in) from approximately 11:30 a.m. to noon; at Menards in Rolla (wearing a mask); at ALDI in Rolla (wearing a mask) at Moto Mart at 200 S. Bishop Ave. in Rolla (wearing a mask); and at Walmart in Rolla (wearing a mask).

            Primary symptoms include a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, cough, and shortness of breath. Potential contacts may call the CCHD office to be screened to determine if monitoring and quarantine are required.

            If you have spoken to a nurse at the Crawford County Health Department, you were already informed of your risk to this patient.

            CCHD urges the public to take appropriate precautions, including social distancing, limiting in-person interactions, avoiding contact with people who are sick, covering coughs and sneezes, proper handwashing, cleaning frequently used surfaces, and staying home when sick.

            CCHD has taken and will continue to take the necessary precautions to keep our community safe and will continue to diligently monitor the COVID-19 situation as it evolves by following the CDC guidelines to protect public health and limit the spread of this infection.

            The local health department encourages anyone who suspects they have COVID-19, or has been in contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19, to call their healthcare provider before seeking care, unless it is a life-threatening emergency.
