Mary Elizabeth Tipton was born April 19, 1932 at Seaton, Missouri to Earnest and Lydia Virginia (Happle) Adams and passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020 at the age of 88 years.
She grew up in St. James, Missouri and graduated from John F. Hodge High School.
She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized with her parents at the First Baptist Church in St. James, Missouri.
She married Gene Tipton on September 1, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in St. James, Missouri.
Mary was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She loved them when they won but not when they lost.
She loved to bake and every Christmas the family was supplied with her homemade cookies until her health began to fail. One of her favorites was Gooey Butter cookies.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cuba, Missouri. She loved her Sunday School class and was quick to tell everyone that her sister was the teacher. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and enjoyed the outings for breakfast.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents, Earnest and Lydia Adams; parents-in-law, Cecil and Olline Tipton; two brothers, Edwin and Charles; her sister, Dortha Basford; bothers-in-law, Jim Basford, Donald Tipton and Ed Hughes; and son-in-law, Robert Vannatter.
She is survived by her children, Steven Tipton and wife Mary of Cuba, Missouri, Joseph Tipton and wife Marian of Oakville, Missouri and Pamela Vannatter of Arnold, Missouri; one sister, Eileen Hughes of Cuba, Missouri; sister-in-law, Alma Lee Adams of St. James, Missouri; grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
As per her wishes she was cremated and her ashes are to be placed on her parents graves in the Adams Cemetery close to St. James, Missouri.
There was no service due to COVID-19.
