JMPL and elementary school offering book giveaway Friday

The James Memorial Public Library is teaming with the Lucy Wortham James Elementary School to provide a free book giveaway this Friday, August 14. The event will take place in the elementary school parking lot throughout the day and will be a great way to get books to children.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Books will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. People can stop by the parking lot to pick up a free book. Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, masks will be required for attendees over 4 years old and volunteers will dispense hand sanitizer to guests before they can choose their books.
“In partnership with Lucy Wortham James Elementary, the library is excited to be offering a free book giveaway for students in the St. James school District. There will be a selection of new and used books, ranging in reading levels from board books to YA novels,” library Youth Services Leader Niki Moen explained. “Earlier this summer, the library was awarded a grant in the amount of $1,000 by the Phelps Health Sponsorship Program to purchase brand new books to be given away to students in our community to help build home libraries. Additionally, there will be a selection of gently used books which have been donated by members of our community.”
This event is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the office of the Secretary of State.
This event is free to the public and members of the library and elementary school are looking forward to serving the community through the book giveaway event. Anyone with questions can contact Moen at 573-265-7211.
