Steelville schools announce fall sports restrictions

Simmons Auditorium at Steelville High School will be a lot quieter this fall. For home volleyball matches, no students will be allowed to attend unless they have a sister playing for the Lady Cardinals.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Steelville School District is asking that only immediately family members attend volleyball matches and that all families sit together to ensure social distancing. The use of masks will be highly recommended.
The district announced Monday that capacity for home volleyball games will be limited to 275 spectators and the SHS student body will not be admitted unless they have a sibling who is participating. Those students who do attend will be required to sit with the family.
Visiting teams will have their own section of the bleachers and will sit on the right side of the gym as you enter from the cafeteria. Home spectators will sit on the left side of the gym. The gates will open one hour before game time. The first home match is scheduled for September 9 against Potosi.
For the only cross country meet of the season, which is scheduled for September 17, the district will be reducing the number of schools invited to attend to 10. The school is also asking that only parents attend the meet and that everyone social distance while they are in the park.
The district will continue to monitor the pandemic situation in our area and make adjustments to its attendance policy as needed. Restrictions for middle school basketball games, which begin in early October, have not been announced.
