The Vichy Fire Dept. will host the Seventh Annual Leroy Tipton Memorial Tractor Cruise on Sept. 13, 2020, at the Vichy Community Park.
Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. with a mandatory safety meeting at 9 a.m. The ride will start at 9:30 a.m. sharp. Cost of the ride is $15 and includes lunch at the Vichy Firehouse and memorial button, honoring the memory of Russ Otis. The button is sponsored by Friends of Russ Otis. All proceeds benefit the Vichy Volunteer Fire Department.
The 13-mile ride will travel Highway FF and nearby backroads and will include a tour of Mill Creek Farm, owned by Shawn and Ronna Breeding. The ride will conclude with dinner at the firehouse.
Tractor drivers must be 16 years of age and can only carry passengers if the tractor has a buddy seat or enclosed cab. Wagons are allowed. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the ride. For those just wanting a good meal, fire department volunteers will be grilling whole hog sausages and serving homemade chicken and dumplings from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the firehouse. This will be served with baked beans, homemade slaw, homemade country hash browns along with a large selection of homemade desserts. Cost is $10 for adults, and $5 for children. This dinner will be carry-out only.
The fire department is also selling raffle chances on a hand-embroidered quilt, made by the late Wilma Tipton and donated by the Tipton family. The quilt is currently on display at the Maries County Bank in Vichy. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Vichy Bank until 10 a.m. on Sept. 12. The winner of the quilt will be drawn at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 during the dinner.
