Doris Marie Riley

Doris Marie Riley of St. James, Missouri was born in Brashear, Missouri on September 11, 1933 to Von Clifford and Osce Malvina (West) Patterson and passed away on Friday, August 28, 2020 at the age of 86 years.

On June 3, 1949 Doris married Lloyd (Bud) Franklin Riley.
Doris was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.
Doris last years in the nursing home earned her the name “Smiley Riley,” even when she didn’t agree with what they wanted, she smiled at them.
Doris was a woman of many talents, baking and decorating cakes for birthdays and showers (wedding and baby).
She was well known for her cinnamon rolls, angel biscuits for Easter breakfast and hot yeast rolls for church dinners.
Doris loved to crochet. She crocheted many doilies, and a bedspread for both of her children.
Back in the day of corded phones, sometimes the grandkids took advantage when grandma was on a phone call to raid the candy dish or some other messy treat.
Doris always fixed breakfast for Lloyd when he was working, and packed him a lunch for the day. She helped him in the fields, mowing, disking and brush hogging. They grew a garden together and she would freeze and can their harvest. She was known to be the fastest green bean picker ever.
But even in these jobs, she was always neat, her hair was done, she had her earrings in, lipstick on, and her nails always polished. Each evening if the nails needed fixed, she would sit in front of the vanity and apply new polish.
Another favorite memory was when Lloyd came in from the fields, he would always go to Doris and hug and kiss her. Doris shared her faith in the Lord with everyone, she gave Him all the glory in all she had, and all she did.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Von Clifford and Osce Patterson; husband, Lloyd in 2019; sister, Catherine Crump, and husband M.D.; sisters-in-law, Velma Williams and husband Bill, and Mae Otis and husband Raymond; brother-in-law, Cecil Elmer Riley;  sister-in-law, Loretta Scott and husband James; and great granddaughter, Madelyn Grace Salts.
