The Cuba High School volleyball teams opened their season last week with a pair of home matches against New Haven and Houston. Both squads are still looking for their first match wins of the year.
In varsity action on September 1 against New Haven, the Lady Wildcats lost in straight sets, 15-25, 23-25, and 14-25. The varsity teams are playing the best three out of five matches starting this year.
Jayda Mercer led Cuba with seven kills and two ace serves, while Elizabeth Fieser had five kills and 11 digs. Kenna Noltkamper had four kills and four blocks, Hanna Smith three kills, Lexi Earnhart three kills and two aces, and Addie Smith led the team with 10 digs.
The JV Lady Wildcats fell to New Haven in three sets.
Cuba hosted Houston on September 3 and the varsity lost in four sets. Cuba won the opening set 25-23, but then dropped the next three 20-25, 22-25, and 18-25. No stats were available.

The volleyball teams played in Bourbon Tuesday and will be back in action at home on Thursday against Viburnum at 5 p.m. Cuba will also play at Pacific on September 15 and at St. Clair on September 17 before hosting their annual tournament on Saturday, September 19.
